Bupyeong Traditional Market

인천광역시 부평구 부흥로316번길 38-3

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Bupyeong Traditional Market is a traditional market with a long history. Its origins trace back to a street of stalls that emerged during the Japanese colonial period as the area around Bupyeong Station developed and the population increased. The market took on its full form after the Korean War (6·25 War). Military supplies from nearby U.S. military bases were traded here, leading to it being called 'Dokkaebi Market' or 'Yankee Market,' and its scale gradually expanded. In the 1970s, a wholesale fruit and vegetable market was established, and the commercial district grew so large that people came from as far as Gimpo and Yeongdeungpo, as well as Incheon, to shop. True to its title as Incheon's largest traditional market, Bupyeong Traditional Market has everything. With about 400 stores, it offers a wide variety of items including agricultural and marine products, fruits, vegetables, and general goods. Due to high product turnover, fresh ingredients are always available. Hand-cut noodles (sonkalguksu) and fried chicken (dakgangjeong), which can be enjoyed in generous portions at affordable prices, are must-try signature snacks. Direction signs are installed within the market for easy navigation, and cultural performances are held in the multipurpose plaza during holidays. Because the commercial district is so large, the adjacent Jinheung Traditional Market, Jayu Market, and Bupyeong Modumall (Bupyeong Underground Shopping Center) are now commonly referred to together as Bupyeong Traditional Market.
