Why travelers stop here
Samhae Soju is a traditional soju designated as Seoul Metropolitan City Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 8. It operates a experience space in a workshop located in Mapo where visitors can taste and learn about various traditional liquors. Here, anyone can enhance their understanding of traditional liquor through general tasting, distillation experiences, and regular academy programs. Samhaeju was a representative liquor of the Joseon Dynasty, maintaining its reputation through long-term commercial production in Mapo, Seoul. Made from non-glutinous rice, glutinous rice, nuruk (fermentation starter), and water, Samhae Soju is distilled from yakju (medicinal rice wine) produced through long-term low-temperature fermentation, characterized by its deep flavor and clean taste without hangovers. Notably, Samhaeju is brewed only once a year in winter using the samyangju method, making it one of the longest-fermenting liquors in Korea.
