경기도 시흥시 영각사길 52 (군자동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Yeonggaksa Temple is a Buddhist temple located on Gunja Mountain in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province. It was originally founded in 1590 under the name Ilyeongsa, but was destroyed by fire during the Japanese invasions of Korea (Imjin War) and rebuilt in the late Joseon period. After liberation, it was destroyed again and subsequently reconstructed.

The pride of Yeonggaksa Temple, Muryangsujeon Hall, is considered a work of art and has been selected as one of the top 10 temples with beautiful dancheong (traditional Korean decorative painting). Additionally, in April 2003, it was designated as the best Buddhist hall in the country by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The temple also operates the Gunja Memorial Park.
