Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Yeomburam is a branch temple of the Second Diocese of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. The founding of Yeombulsa Temple is connected to the legend of Samseongsan Mountain. During the reign of King Munmu of Silla, three patriarchs—Wonhyo, Uisang, and Yunpil—entered this mountain. Wonhyo founded Samaksa Temple, Uisang founded Yeonjuam Hermitage, and Yunpil founded Yeombulsa Temple, each practicing asceticism in their respective temples. The greatest pride of Yeombulsa Temple is its beautiful scenery, where bizarre rocks and dense forests surround the mid-slope of Samseongsan Mountain like a folding screen. The temple buildings are situated at different heights according to their hierarchy, allowing visitors to enjoy completely different views from each building. In particular, the view from Chilseonggak Pavilion is as beautiful as a piece of Oriental painting.
