Why travelers stop here
Jangsu Park, one of the landmarks of Sinwol-dong, stretches from the 'Water Flowing Street' at Sinjeong Intersection to the covered road in Sinwol-dong. It features health pressure paths, badminton courts, and other facilities, making it a park suitable for walking and exercise. The Haenuri Fountain Plaza on the Water Flowing Street is a waterfront park that serves as a joyful playground for children in the city, offering a cool respite. In the central square of Jangsu Park, there is also a monument dedicated to veterans of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Walking along the pleasant paths of Jangsu Park, you will encounter Yeolnyeomun (Gate of a Virtuous Woman). The subject of this gate, Lady Lee, was born as a precious daughter of the prestigious Jeonui Lee clan but lost her husband early. Overwhelmed with grief, she refused food and starved to death in her late twenties. Upon learning of this, the royal court in 1729 (the 5th year of King Yeongjo's reign) bestowed the Yeolnyeomun with a plaque inscribed 'Gate of the Virtuous Woman, Lady Lee of Jeonui, Wife of Student Won Jeong-ik' to honor her noble spirit.
