Bogwangsa Temple (Gwacheon)

경기도 과천시 교육원로 41 (갈현동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Gwacheon Bogwangsa Temple is a Buddhist temple established in 1929. Unlike typical temples, it is uniquely located in the city center. Within the temple grounds, there are cultural properties such as the Wooden Seated Buddha Statue, a Gyeonggi-do Tangible Cultural Heritage; the Stone Standing Bodhisattva from Munwon-ri Temple Site, a Gyeonggi-do Cultural Heritage Material; and the Three-Story Stone Pagoda from Siheung Munwon-ri, also a Gyeonggi-do Cultural Heritage Material.

The Wooden Seated Buddha Statue enshrined in Geungnakbojeon Hall of Bogwangsa Temple is coated with gold, making it appear like a gilt-bronze Buddha, but its interior is made of wood, adding to its rarity. It gives a comfortable and soft impression due to its overall rounded shape. Its production date is estimated to be around the 17th century.
