Hwanggye-dong Jeongjo Village

경기도 화성시 황계길 97-1 (황계동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

A historic village in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. Hwanggye-dong is a village where King Jeongjo briefly stayed while on his royal procession to pay respects to the tomb of Crown Prince Sado (Yungneung), attending to the people's affairs and resting. After King Jeongjo's passing, it was a place where the national funeral procession passed. Royal processions of later kings, such as King Sunjo, also involved national rites. Designated as Hwaseong-si's first urban regeneration village, since 2018, the residents of Hwanggye-dong have voluntarily reenacted the Seonghwang Daeje (village tutelary deity ritual) under the village's Dangsang tree. During the 2022 reenactment of King Jeongjo's royal procession, the procession passed through the Hwanggye-dong embankment road at the village entrance. Within the village, there is Hwanggye Park, and the Hwangguicheon stream flows at the village entrance.
