Simgokseowon Confucian Academy

Simgok Seowon, which enshrines Jeongam Jo Gwang-jo (1482–1519), the leader of the Sarim faction during the reign of King Jungjong of the Joseon Dynasty, as its main subject, follows the typical Joseon seowon layout of 'front lecture hall, rear shrine' (jeonhak-humyo). It is the only seowon dedicated to Jo Gwang-jo that was not damaged during the 1871 seowon abolition decree by Heungseon Daewongun and has survived to the present day. It is approximately 4 minutes by car from Gwanggyo Sanghyeon IC and about 3 minutes from Sanghyeon Station on the Shinbundang Line, with a direct bus from the station. The tomb and stele of Munjeonggong Jo Gwang-jo are located nearby, and nearby attractions include Everland, Korean Folk Village, UNESCO World Heritage sites Hwaseong Fortress and Yungneung and Geolleung, Jisan Forest Resort Ski Resort, Deokpyeong Dinosaur Arboretum, and Hantaek Botanical Garden.
