Naedong Village Lotus Complex

Naedong Village, neighboring the Yongin Rural Theme Park, has a lotus complex covering an area of 85,000㎡ where various aquatic plants such as white lotus, red lotus, and water lilies grow. The Naedong Village Lotus Complex was created in 2006 when the Yongin Agricultural Technology Center leased part of the village's rice paddies to develop the Yongin Rural Theme Park. When the contract period expired, the village residents considered future uses, and with the Rural Development Administration's Green Rural Hope Project, they expanded the existing lotus complex into a scenic area where flowers can be enjoyed from spring to fall. The lotus complex is mostly composed of edible lotuses like white and red lotus, as well as ornamental lotus, temperate water lilies, and tropical water lilies. Some sections are planted seasonally with buckwheat, barley, and cosmos, offering diverse sights. The lotuses peak in July and August, typically blooming fully between 08:00 and 11:00, making this the best time to see them at their prettiest. Notably, the giant water lily called Amazon Victoria water lily features large, tray-like leaves and red flowers that close during the day and open in the evening. On the way to the lotus complex, you pass through a tunnel of vine plants including loofah, morning glory, hardy kiwi, five-flavor berry, and more. Between the lotus fields, there are open-air pavilions where you can rest from the summer heat, adding to the rural charm, and nostalgic character sculptures of the frog King Aengdu and Aromi provide fun discoveries. It takes about 13 minutes by car from Yangji IC. Nearby attractions include Yongin Rural Theme Park, Yongdam Reservoir, Yongdam Taegyo Walking Trail, and in the vicinity, Everland, Korean Folk Village, UNESCO World Heritage Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and Yungneung and Geolleung Royal Tombs, Giheung Lake Park, Deokpyeong Dinosaur Arboretum, Starlight Garden Space, and Hantaek Botanical Garden.
