Choe Gyu-seo Eoseogak

This is a pavilion (jeonggak) enshrining the royal calligraphy (eoseo) and portrait (yeongjeong) bestowed by King Yeongjo upon Choe Gyu-seo (1650-1735), a revered official of the mid-Joseon period who served as Yeonguijeong (Chief State Councilor) and was posthumously honored as Chungjeonggong (Duke of Loyalty and Righteousness). King Yeongjo highly praised Chungjeonggong's merits, granting him the personally written calligraphy 'Ilsabujeong' (一絲扶鼎) and ordering the erection of a loyal subject's commemorative gate (chungsinjeongmun). However, in 1915, the U.S. Embassy was established on the original site of the pavilion, necessitating the relocation of the royal calligraphy to its current location at the tomb of the duke.
