Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Manse Hill is a pass between Wongok-myeon and Yangseong-myeon in Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. On April 1, 1919, residents of Wongok-myeon held a Manse (independence) demonstration here. Its original names were Seongeun Hill or Yangseong Hill. On the night of April 1, 1919, during the height of the March 1st Independence Movement, about 1,000 residents of Wongok-myeon gathered at Manse Hill, raised the Taegukgi, shouted for independence, and then charged toward Yangseong. They joined with about 1,000 residents of Yangseong, burned Japanese institutions, and liberated the area for two days. It is called Manse Hill to commemorate the independence struggle movement. Additionally, in 2001, the Anseong 3.1 Movement Memorial Hall was built here. Behind the memorial hall, there is a hiking trail leading to Baengnyeonbong Peak. There is a Changjin Sanjang Rest Area. Parking is available at the Anseong 3.1 Movement Memorial Hall parking lot and the Changjin Sanjang Rest Area parking lot.
