Icheon Dollyeop-ri Banyongsong

Located near Icheon Sanyu Village, Icheon Dollyeop-ri Banyongsong is called Banyongsong (蟠龍松), meaning a dragon coiling on the ground before ascending to the sky, or Mannyeonsong, meaning a dragon pine that will live for over ten thousand years. It is designated as the 6th scenic spot of Icheon's Nine Scenic Views and is a Natural Monument.

It is said that Doseon, a Buddhist monk from the late Silla period, planted this pine among others in this area, as well as in Hamheung, Seoul, Gangwon-do, and Gyeryongsan, prophesying the birth of great figures. A legend tells that anyone who peeled the bark of this tree died of illness, and damaging the tree inevitably brings misfortune. At the time of designation, its age was estimated at 850 years, with a height of 4.25m and a trunk circumference at chest height of 1.83m. The bark is red like dragon scales, and the branches spread widely in all directions from about 2m above the ground, creating a very unique shape. Compared to its height, the tree's form is exceptionally broad and twisted bizarrely like a dragon writhing. Due to its unusual shape, it holds high biological value and is protected as a Natural Monument.
