Why travelers stop here
The Memorial Tower located in Daljeon-ri, Gapyeong-eup, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do was built to commemorate the noble spirit of sacrifice of 681 fallen soldiers and 33 police officers who died in the line of duty from this region, having given their only lives for the nation. The tower measures 5.8m in width, 4.1m in depth, and 8m in height. The height of the tower and the 8 steps leading up to the incense altar symbolize the 8 townships (eup/myeon), while the white granite body represents the pure heart of the peace-loving residents. The bronze flame at the center symbolizes the unquenchable patriotism of the 714 young individuals engraved on the tower. The memorial monument behind the tower was originally erected at 34 Hari, Pyeongchang-eup in July 1959, and was relocated here when this memorial tower was built.
