April 19th National Cemetery

Located at the foot of Mt. Samgaksan (Mt. Bukhansan), the National 4·19 Cemetery is the burial site of 224 individuals who sacrificed their lives during the April 19 Revolution of 1960, standing against the power that perpetrated the fraudulent March 15 election of 1960. A memorial tower has been erected in their honor. At the center of the memorial tower, an epitaph commemorating those who died righteous deaths is inscribed. The cemetery grounds, covering 135,901㎡, are modestly adorned with pine, juniper, yew, and maple trees. The memorial hall, spanning 1,652.9㎡, and the Yuyeongbong Anso, which houses portraits, have been expanded with a traditional Korean wooden structure covering 330.58㎡. Additionally, there are sculptures such as the Symbolic Gate, Root of Democracy, and Flame of Justice, along with a pond, a walking path paved with decorative blocks, and outdoor benches. In May, when cherry blossoms bloom, the view of Mt. Samgaksan (Mt. Bukhansan) from the park offers both the coziness of a mother's embrace and splendor, while the sunset scenery is spectacular.
