Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Located at the foot of Umyeonsan Mountain in Seoul, Gwanmunsa Temple is the cradle of the Cheontae Order in the Seoul metropolitan area and a central place for Buddhist propagation, nestled in the natural surroundings of Cheonggyesan Mountain, Umyeonsan Mountain, and Yangjaecheon Stream. Great Master Uicheon introduced the Cheontae sect, founded by Zhiyi of the Tiantai school around the 6th century, to Korea in order to unify and rectify the chaotic state of Goryeo Buddhism.

Gwanmunsa Temple combines modern and traditional Buddhist architectural styles. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, it hosts various domestic and international cultural, academic, and religious ceremonies. Through diverse programs, it helps modern people who are weary and exhausted to let go of their suffering and find peace of mind.
