Why travelers stop here
Geumboseong Art Center is an art museum located in Pyeongchang-dong, consisting of two basement floors and two ground floors. The director of Geumboseong Art Center acquired the Grorich Gallery in 2012. This gallery, which was a non-representational commercial gallery in the 1970s, was renamed [Gallery Pyeongchang-dong] and then held exhibitions inviting unknown artists. Opened a year later, Geumboseong Art Center was originally the Kim Heung-soo Museum. At the entrance of the art center, a banner always hangs reading [A resting place for free souls carrying the burden of creation]. This place is called the [Mecca of galleries] by artists because it lends the art center for free to financially struggling painters or new artists and even handles their promotion. Director Geumboseong has collaborated with other countries, promoted the Ark Korea project, and established the [Korean Artist Award] to elevate the status of Korean artists. The Korean Artist Award is given to artists aged 60 or older who have created over 5,000 works, both domestically and internationally, and includes a substantial prize. Not stopping there, it also awards the [Creative Artist of the Year] to new artists to support their free creative activities.
