Gwanghwamun Square

서울특별시 종로구 세종대로 172

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Gwanghwamun Square, renovated and opened to the public, transforms the 600-year-old central street of Seoul, Sejong-ro, from a vehicle-centered road to a human-centered space. It offers views of beautiful natural landscapes such as Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukaksan Mountain, and has been reborn as a historical and cultural experience space through the restoration of the old Yukjo Street. At the entrance section, 'The Square Restoring the History of Gwanghwamun,' the Wolchae (stone platform) has been recreated and the Haetae statue restored. In the section around Sejong-ro Park, 'The Square Reproducing the Scenery of Yukjo Street,' traces of the former central street of Hanyang, Yukjo Street, have been recreated, and a miniature model embodying it has been installed.
