Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Whanki Museum opened in Seoul in November 1992, designed by architect Woo Kyu-sung, to honor Suhwa Kim Whanki and contribute to the development of modern art. To widely promote the artistic world of Kim Whanki, a representative figure of Korean modern art, the museum publishes special exhibitions and catalogs on Kim Whanki research annually. It supports the creative activities of young artists working in various fields through exhibitions of modern and contemporary artists such as 'Research on Modern and Contemporary Artists', 'People Suhwa Met', 'Whanki Museum Space Project', and 'Whanki Foundation Artist Exhibition', as well as the 'Free Whanki' open call. Additionally, it serves as a public educational institution for civil society through educational programs such as 'Art Program for Seniors with Dementia', 'Art On', and 'Art Think'. This stems from the founder's belief that the great artistic world left by an artist becomes part of our cultural heritage over time. Moving forward, Whanki Museum will continue to strive to realize its future vision, 'A Dream of a Society Communicating through Art'.
