Baegakmaru

서울특별시 종로구 부암동 30 백악마루

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

This is the name for the summit of Bugaksan Mountain. At 342 meters above sea level, it is not particularly high numerically, but it stands out prominently in the area, offering a sweeping view of the center of Seoul while embracing Gyeongbokgung Palace and the Blue House in its bosom. In 1936, when Hanyangdoseong (Seoul City Wall) was first built, a total of 97 construction sections were divided, and each section was named after a character from the Thousand Character Classic. At that time, Baegakmaru, as the starting point of the fortress wall, corresponded to the character 'Cheon'. Being the highest point of Hanyangdoseong, it provides a panoramic view of the long stretch of the fortress wall spanning Bugaksan and Inwangsan Mountains, and allows visitors to enjoy a special time appreciating each peak of Bukhansan Mountain, from Jokduribong to Hyangnobong, Bibong, Seunggabong, Munsubong, and Hyeongjebong in sequence.
