Why travelers stop here
The Museum of Modern and Contemporary History is located in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, which is home to Bonghwangak, the birthplace of the March 1st Movement, the tombs of patriotic martyrs and independence activists, and the National 4·19 Democratic Cemetery. As a sacred site of the spirit of independence and democracy, the museum exhibits our proud history from the Donghak Peasant Movement to the 4·19 Revolution, in order to properly remember and spread the noble will of the martyrs. It conveys the ideologies of 'freedom', 'equality', and 'democracy' as precious values that the martyrs acquired and accumulated through their blood and sweat, with a moving narrative, aiming to show that 'the country dreamed of by independence activists' and 'the country wished for by the fighters of the April Revolution' are the future vision of the Republic of Korea. The museum opened in May 2016 and holds new special exhibitions and historical experience programs every year.
