Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Gajisan (elevation 1,241m), located on the border of Miryang-si and Ulju-gun in Gyeongsangnam-do and Cheongdo-gun in Gyeongsangbuk-do, is the highest peak among the nine peaks of the Yeongnam Alps. It neighbors Unmunsan (1,188m) to the west, and the ridge near the summit, from Ssalbawi Rock to the mountain top, consists of rock walls and rock peaks, making it considered the most beautiful mountain in the Yeongnam region. Throughout Gajisan, rock peaks and silver grass fields harmonize, and the hiking course connecting to Unmunsan is a popular route for many hikers. In autumn, the section from Seoknam Pass to the summit features spectacular rock formations and autumn foliage, and from the summit of Gajisan, one can overlook ranges such as Unmunsan, Jaeyaksan, Cheonhwangsan, Sinbulsan, and Goheonsan. Gajisan is the source of the Miryang River, with Cheonhwangsan (1,189m) to the south. At the foot of Gajisan lies Seoknamsa Temple, which houses cultural relics such as the Seoknamsa Budo (Treasure No. 369) and the Three-Story Stone Pagoda (Local Tangible Cultural Property No. 22). The path from the entrance to the temple is a walking trail lined with dense forests of maple trees and old pine trees. Address: Sannae-myeon, Miryang-si, Gyeongsangnam-do
