Gapseon Oreum

Located in Gasi-ri, Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, this oreum has a horseshoe-shaped crater (gumburi) opening to the southwest. The Gasit Stream flows west of the oreum, and the village of Gasi-ri sits cozily to the west. To the northwest is Seol Oreum, and to the south is Gasi Oreum. The total area is approximately 252,799㎡, with a circumference of 1,859m and a height of 188.2m. 'Gapseon' appears to be a native Jeju word, but its meaning is unclear; it is said that the name originates from its resemblance to a larva or cicada that has not shed its skin. The surrounding area is mainly composed of graves, orchards, and farmland. The Gamacheon (Gasicheon) stream between the village and the oreum flows to the beach in Sehwa-ri. The foot of the oreum is covered with a dense mixed forest of cedar, evergreen, and deciduous trees. During forest fire prevention periods (spring: February 1 to May 15, autumn: November 1 to December 15), entry into the mountain is restricted.
