Why travelers stop here
The Ganggyeong Jungang Elementary School auditorium is a school auditorium building constructed in 1937 in Ganggyeong-eup, Nonsan-si, Chungcheongnam-do. The walls are built with red bricks, showcasing the history of the oldest school in Ganggyeong. The roof was replaced with a gable roof during reconstruction after the Korean War, and relatively many windows were installed to improve lighting. The construction techniques, such as brick corbeling and rafter methods using brick dentil courses, reflect the typical school auditorium architecture of the time. Horizontal bands (cornices) divide the facade, and white bands at the building corners alleviate the monotony of the elevation, overall possessing the universal characteristics of school auditoriums of that era. The interior ceiling features a wooden coffered ceiling with a recessed central section, and the floor is laid with narrow wooden planks.
The Ganggyeong Jungang Elementary School auditorium can be accessed via National Route 23, Local Routes 68 and 799, through the Gaebaek-ro road. The nearest highways are the Nonsan-Cheonan Expressway's Yeonmu IC and the Honam Expressway Branch's Nonsan IC. For public transportation, Ganggyeong Station on the Honam Line and the Ganggyeong Bus Terminal are available. Nearby attractions include Ganggyeong Jeotgal Market, Ganggyeong History Museum, Ganggyeong Modern Street, and Ganggyeong Port.
