Gangjin Seojung Fishing Village Experience Village

Seojung Fishing Village Experience Village is a beautiful fishing village located in the central part of Gangjin Bay, which is shaped like a cone where clean waters flow inland, at the southernmost tip of Gangjin County, Jeollanam-do. The nearby Kkamak Island (evergreen forest) in the sea in front of the village is designated as a natural monument. Originally called Seojae-dong due to the many village schools (seodang), it was gradually changed to Seojung. Major experience activities include the pot trap octopus experience, where you catch octopus using a pot trap; a boarding experience on a small fishing boat to tour the waters of Maryang, the best flavor of Honam; a barge fishing experience on a sea barge; a sea pension experience where you can fish and stay overnight at a sea pension; and a seaweed farming and drying experience where you can directly experience seaweed cultivation. Maryang Port, developed as Korea's first fishing port and harbor complex, is located near the village. With the opening of the land bridge connecting Maryang-myeon, Gangjin County, and Gogeum-myeon, Wando County in 2007, the area has emerged as a new tourist attraction featuring the Gogeum Bridge, the sea, islands, and the Maryang flavor. There are 22 raw fish restaurants and 12 seaweed processing companies, serving as a driving force for the local economy of Gangjin County.<br>
