Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Located next to the Gyeonggi Children's Museum, the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum opened in June 1996 to preserve and develop the history and traditional culture of Gyeonggi Province. It houses one national treasure and four treasures, and operates a regular docent program, making it a popular destination not only for individuals but also for group field trips by students.

The museum spans one basement floor and three above-ground floors, with six exhibition halls. The exhibitions are broadly divided into permanent exhibitions, special exhibitions, donation rooms, and an outdoor exhibition area. The permanent exhibition halls include the Prehistory and Ancient Hall, Goryeo and Joseon Hall, Modern and Contemporary Hall, and an Immersive Video Hall. On display are a total of 23 items including the national treasure 'First Printed Edition of the Avatamsaka Sutra' and treasures such as 'Cheontaesaui', 'Jineon Gwon' (with Korean annotations), 'Sim Dae's Royal Certificate of Meritorious Subject', and 'Portrait of Jo Yeong-bok', along with 29 provincial tangible cultural properties, 12 important folk cultural properties, and over 3,500 artifacts including various books, paintings, stone tools, bronze artifacts, iron artifacts, metal crafts, and ceramics, as well as over 4,000 research books.
