Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Soisan Mountain is a small mountain with an elevation of 362m, boasting an unscathed natural environment and a summit view overlooking the wide plains. It was the site of the 1st Beacon Fire Station (Je1ro Bongsudae), which signaled the appearance of foreign enemies since the Goryeo Dynasty, and it is the center of Cheorwon's history, remembering the glorious past of old Cheorwon before the Korean War. Additionally, the Soisan Ecological Forest Green Trail has been established. For decades, Soisan Mountain had been closed to human footsteps, trapped within landmine fields and civilian control zones outside military control areas. However, through the Army's long-standing consultations and active cooperation for the opening of Soisan, the military, civilian, and government authorities worked together to open the current trail. The installation of fences, considering the safety of the landmine zone and the region's特殊性, harmonizes with the lush, untouched forest, and the pristine natural ecosystem offers great peace of mind to visitors.
