Why travelers stop here
Wonju Ott Chilgi Craft Hall is a craft hall specializing in ott (lacquer). Ott is a natural paint that has been used by the Korean people since ancient times. It does not deteriorate due to temperature and humidity, has strong sterilizing power, is harmless to the human body, and with its subtle beauty, it was mainly used for precious items such as ritual vessels, dining tables, chests, and furniture. In addition to the regional characteristic that many high-quality lacquer trees grow in Wonju, the city was reborn as a lacquerware craft culture city when Master Kim Bong-ryong, a holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property for mother-of-pearl lacquerware, settled in Taejang-dong, Wonju in 1968.
