Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Baekdam Valley, located in Buk-myeon, Inje-gun, refers to the section from Baekdamsa Temple to Yongdae-ri. Although there is a road along the 8km section, general vehicles are prohibited. Centered on the ridge connecting Daecheongbong Peak, the highest peak of Seoraksan Mountain, and Madeungnyeong Pass, the western area is commonly called Naeseorak (Inner Seorak), which includes Seonnyeotang, Baekdam, Suryeondong, Gayadong, and Baekundong Valleys. Among these, Baekdam Valley is wide like a stream and long, making it the representative valley of Naeseorak. The depth of the valley ranges from ankle to mid-calf at its deepest, making it generally shallow. With clean rock beds, pebbles, clear water, lush surrounding forests, and gentle mountain scenery, the valley is refreshing. The name Baekdam (百潭) means 'one hundred pools' (deep places where water collects), and Baekdamsa Temple, located in the center of Baekdam Valley, is a famous old temple associated with the traces of Manhae Han Yong-un. Suryeondong Valley, which continues upstream from Baekdam Valley, is another beautiful valley representing Naeseorak, where large and small waterfalls and pools harmonize with奇特 rocks and rocks, creating spectacular scenery. The hiking trail from Baekdam Valley through Suryeondong to Madeungnyeong Pass and on to Oeseorak (Outer Seorak) takes from dawn to evening to reach Seorak-dong, with the highlight being the blade-like Gongnyong Ridge view from Madeungnyeong Pass.
