Bloody Ridge Battle Monument

The Bloody Ridge Battle was an offensive operation conducted by the South Korean military in August 1951 to secure the area around Suri-bong, located 10-20 km north of the Kansas Line, with the aim of advancing the armistice negotiations and securing key strategic points in preparation for a ceasefire. Despite fierce enemy resistance and the fall of hundreds of thousands of artillery shells during the battle, the operation was completed through the sacrifice of numerous South Korean soldiers, marking a site of national salvation.

To fulfill the state's infinite duty of "taking full responsibility for those who gave their lives for the nation," the Ministry of National Defense conducted a remains excavation project from 2000 to 2015, allowing the remains of 684 individuals who had not been recovered to be enshrined at the National Cemetery.
