Yonghwa Village

Located along National Route 7, 24 km south of Samcheok, Yonghwa Beach is a famous summer resort on the East Sea, boasting a long, crescent-shaped white sand beach. The clear emerald waters, where the bottom is fully visible, and the fine sandy beach stretching about 800 meters, along with the spectacular rock formations beside it, are a sight to behold. The village that embraces this Yonghwa Beach is Yonghwa Village. As the existence of this beautiful port became known and differentiated fishing village experience programs were added, it developed into a tourism fishing village in the 2000s. In 2010, an ocean rail bike facility was installed along the 5.4 km coastline between Gungchon-ri and Yonghwa-ri in Geundeok-myeon, and subsequently, a sea cable car was installed over the sea spanning 874 m connecting Yonghwa-ri and Jangho-ri. This introduced a unique tourism experience where visitors ride the rail bike to Yonghwa-ri Beach, then take the sea cable car across the sea to Jangho Port, attracting even more tourists to Yonghwa Village to experience this. At Yonghwa Fishing Village Experience Village, visitors can enjoy summer leisure activities such as snorkeling, transparent kayaks, and surfing. It is also recommended to look around Yonghwa Village after playing in the water. Murals are painted on the walls of Yonghwa Village. The murals depict the beach and the village, evoking a sense of warmth. On one side of Yonghwa Beach, there is Haesindang (Sea God Shrine), where a ritual is held once a year to pray for the well-being of the seaside village. Nearby, there are many tourist attractions such as Gongyangwangneung (Tomb of King Gongyang), Sinri Neowajip (Traditional House), Sinheungsa Temple, and Chodanggul Cave, which are worth visiting together.
