Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
The Cheoram Station Coal Preparation Plant is Korea's first anthracite coal preparation facility, where coal mined from underground was sorted and processed for various uses. Built around 1935, it is one of the facilities symbolizing the history of Korea's modern industry, and it also holds the painful history of resource exploitation by Japan during the Japanese colonial period under the direction of the Japanese Government-General of Korea. It was operated by the Korea Coal Corporation's Jangseong Mine, producing coal until the mine's closure in July 2024, after which facility tours were discontinued and it can only be viewed from the outside.
