Hapgangjeong Pavilion

Hapgangjeong Pavilion, located in Hapgang 2-ri, Inje-eup, is a pavilion named after the Hapgang (confluence) where Naerincheon Stream and Inbukcheon Stream meet. It is the first pavilion (nujeong) in the Inje area, built in 1676 (the 2nd year of King Sukjong's reign), and was rebuilt in 1756 (the 32nd year of King Yeongjo's reign) after being destroyed by fire. Next to Hapgangjeong Pavilion stands Gangwon-do Jungangdan, an altar built during the Joseon Dynasty. Jungangdan was an altar where rites (byeolyeje) were held to appease spirits of those who died unjustly or received no ancestral rites, in order to prevent epidemics and droughts at the center of each province during the Joseon Dynasty. It is said that Gangwon-do Jungangdan held byeolyeje rites until around 1843.
