Dongnae Oncheon Outdoor Foot Bath

As one of the oldest hot springs in Korea, located in the Dongnae Hot Spring District, this health foot bath features hot spring water at over 40°C gushing from a dragon head sculpture. Dongnae Hot Spring appears in various ancient texts, including the Samguk Sagi and Dongguk Yeoji Seungnam. The Samguk Sagi states that the hot spring water is hot enough to cook eggs, while Dongguk Yeoji Seungnam records that among hot springs across the country, Dongnae Hot Spring is the best, and that patients who bathed there recovered immediately, leading Silla kings to frequently visit. The foot bath stimulates the muscles and joints of the feet and ankles, where important acupoints of the body's 12 meridians are concentrated, with hot water to promote blood circulation throughout the body. It is known to be effective in preventing and treating foot fatigue, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, lethargy, menstrual irregularities, back pain, and arthritis. The water temperature in the Dongnae Hot Spring District is about 63°C, and it is a mildly alkaline saline spring. Drinking the hot spring water is said to be effective for chronic gastrointestinal diseases and gastric atony. Around the foot bath, large bathhouses such as Heosimcheong, Nokcheon Tang, and Cheonil Tang are located in the Dongnae Hot Spring District, and the hot spring monument Onjeonggaenbi is nearby.
