Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Haesan, whose name means 'mountain where the sun rises,' is a beautiful mountain with an elevation of 1,194m. It is also known by other names such as Ilsan (Sun Mountain) and Horangisan (Tiger Mountain). Due to its location within the Civilian Control Zone, access for travelers was previously restricted, but now anyone can visit. From the Haesan Observatory on Haesan, you can see the panoramic view of Paroho Lake, which is located nearby. It takes only about an hour by car from Chuncheon to Haesan, so many travelers from Seoul visit, and even enthusiasts come by bicycle.
