Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
In winter, the residents of Doam-myeon, Pyeongchang used to hunt in the Hwangbyeongsan area. When heavy snow accumulated, wild boars' feet sank into the snow, making it difficult for them to escape, so hunting became easier. The villagers held a mountain god ritual with the captured animals and liquor, and held a seonang ritual at the beginning of the year. In 2007, it was designated as a provincial intangible cultural heritage. The Pyeongchang Hwangbyeongsan Hunting Folk Game is being carried on by the residents of Cha-hang 2-ri, who formed the Hwangbyeongsan Hunting Folk Preservation Society. A two-story experience center was built to introduce folk culture such as hunting methods, the making of hunting tools, the origins of hunting, and hunting rituals.
