Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
This place is beloved by travelers for its excellent scenery, harmonizing with Samaksan Mountain and Uiamho Lake. The Mermaid Statue was a practice piece by Lee Gil-jong, an honorary professor at Chuncheon National University of Education who was a teacher at Chuncheon High School at the time, and his students in 1971. However, as it aged over 40 years with discoloration and deterioration, it was renovated into a bronze sculpture in 2013. The Mermaid Statue is positioned low beyond the roadway, making it easy to pass by, so visitors should be careful.
