Civilian Official Stone Statues at Kim Jeong's Tomb

The Civilian Official Stone Statues at Kim Jeong's Tomb are a pair of stone statues located at the tomb of Kim Jeong, a civil official from the Goryeo period. Kim Jeong served as the Commissioner of Yanggwang Province and Jeolla Province, and as the Grand General of the Capital Army during the reign of King Gongmin of Goryeo. He participated in the reform politics of Shin Don in the late Goryeo period. In the 20th year of King Gongmin's reign (1371), when Shin Don was ousted, Kim Jeong was exiled, and his subsequent whereabouts are unknown. However, records in the 'Newly Augmented Survey of the Geography of the Eastern Kingdom' and the 'Gazetteer of Gwangju-mok' indicate that he was enfeoffed as Jungdaegwang Gwangseong-gun. These two stone statues are carved using the same technique and are made of granite. The left statue is 121 cm tall, and the right statue is 123.5 cm tall, differing in size and smaller compared to other civilian official stone statues. They wear low, unadorned official hats, with eyes, nose, and mouth expressed in thin lines, and hold hols (ceremonial tablets) in both hands, which officials would hold when meeting the king. In addition to the stone statues, the tomb site also includes a pair of stone pillars and a tombstone for the scholar, all of which were erected recently except for the stone statues.
