Why travelers stop here
It is said that Geumgangjeong Pavilion was built by Kim Bok-hang in 1428. However, according to the 'Yeongwol Jeyeong', there is also a story that it was built by Lee Ja-sam when he was a county magistrate, after seeing the beauty of the Geumgang River. Inside the pavilion hangs a hanging board with the calligraphy 'Geumgangjeong' written by former President Syngman Rhee. The blue Donggang River flows below the pavilion, and the movie 'Radio Star' was filmed here. Around Geumgangjeong Pavilion, there are historical sites related to the ill-fated King Danjong. The pavilion consists of 4 kan in the front and 3 kan on the sides. It is built in the ikgong style with a wooden floor. The roof is a hip-and-gable roof with double eaves, decorated with moro dancheong. Geumgangjeong Pavilion is surrounded by Jegok Mountain and Taehwa Mountain, offering a picturesque view of the Eight Scenic Views of Yeongwol. In 1684, Uam Song Si-yeol wrote the 'Geumgangjeonggi' while admiring the splendid scenery around the pavilion.
