Mannyeonsa Precambrian Granite Gneiss (Mudeungsan Area National Geopark)

전라남도 화순군 화순읍 동구리

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Mannyeonsa Precambrian Granite Gneiss is the oldest geological site among the rock layers in the Mudeungsan area. The Precambrian rocks here are distributed around the outskirts of the Gwangju Subsidence Body, including the Mannyeonsa area in Hwasun-gun. Specifically, they are widely distributed to the east and south of the subsidence body around Juam Lake in Sapyeong-myeon, Hancheon-myeon, and Iyang-myeon, Hwasun-gun. To the north, they extend from Eodeungsan Mountain in Gwangsan-gu in a northeast direction through Unnam-dong, Suwan District, and Cheomdan District to Jinwon-myeon, Jangseong-gun, and from Yangsan-dong, Bonchon-dong, and Uchi-dong in Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City to Bongsan-myeon, Damyang-gun. The granite gneiss is a batholithic, coarse- to medium-grained granitic rock with a light gray color, partially showing poorly developed foliation.<br>
