Why travelers stop here
Seolpi Village is a mountain village, the first village under the sky, located at the foot of Jumbongsan (Gombaeryeong) at the entrance of Seoraksan, famous as a clean well-being village. The attraction of Jindong 2-ri is the only primeval forest in Korea. Jindonggyegok Valley, originating from Jumbongsan, which has the only primeval forest in Korea with a well-preserved natural ecosystem as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is a habitat for the natural monument cherry salmon (yeolmeogi) that lives only in first-grade water, making it one of the few clean valleys in Korea. As its name suggests, Seolpi Village is a high-altitude clean area with heavy snow, where you can see white snow until mid-March. Therefore, the residents here wear unique snowshoes called 'seolpi' in winter. Seolpi are overshoes made wide to prevent sinking when walking on snow, which is why the name of Jindong-ri has become 'Seolpibat'.
