Why travelers stop here
Untan Godo 1330 is a trekking trail connecting four cities and counties in the former mining area, where vehicles once carried coal. It runs from Yeongwol through Jeongseon, Taebaek, and Samcheok. The trail is named after the highest point of the course, Manhangjae in Jeongseon, which is 1,330 meters above sea level. The average elevation is 546 meters, and the total length is 173.2 km. The trail was officially opened on October 1, 2022, and is now visited by many tourists. Among them, Trails 1 to 3 are the Yeongwol section, starting from the Untan Godo 1330 Integrated Information Center (Cheongnyeongpo) and passing through Modundong in Gimsatgat-myeon, ending at Jeongseon Yemi Station. Trail 1 passes through Cheongnyeongpo, the place of exile for King Danjong, and follows the Donggang River, offering a chance to find peace. Trail 2 follows the traces of the wandering poet Kim Sat-gat. Trail 3, starting from Modundong, continues along the Miner's Trail, where visitors can feel the traces of miners and encounter the remnants of the coal mines that once led the revival of South Korea.
