Why travelers stop here
Gadeokdo Island is the largest island in Busan, with a legend that Bogae Mountain sank into the sea and then rose again to form it. Along the coastline, you can see the white sandy beaches connecting Nulcha and Dongseon in the northeast, as well as the seaside scenery. To the southeast, there is a wide pebble field at Daehang Saebaji, and starting from Yongduam Rock, you can see the camellia forest, the area around Adongseom Island, Dongdumal, and the towering rocks and strange stones around Gadeokdo Lighthouse. To the southwest, there are scenic spots such as Oeyangpo Beach, the long stretch of Solseom Island at Dumun, and Cheonsumal Kobawi, reminiscent of the breathtaking views of Haegeumgang. Gadeokdo is also an island of history. People have lived here since prehistoric times, and due to its location at the southernmost tip of the country, it was frequently invaded by Japan. During the Joseon Dynasty, military bases and fortresses were built in various places, and there were arsenals for making weapons. The painful history of the Japanese colonial period is preserved in sites such as the military base and artificial caves built by the Japanese army at Oeyangpo.
