Why travelers stop here
Jeongdong-gil in Seoul is one of the most famous walking paths in the city, stretching from the intersection in front of Jeongdong Church, past the main gate of Ewha Girls' High School, to Saemunan-gil. The area around Jeongdong-gil is a large museum recording the modern history of Seoul since the Joseon Dynasty. In particular, it is densely populated with modern architectural landmarks such as Deoksugung Palace, Seoul Museum of Art, and Jeongdong First Methodist Church.
This area is located inside the city walls between Seodaemun (West Gate) and Sosomun (Small West Gate) of Hanyangdoseong, with the fortress walls acting as a protective barrier. It developed early on as a residential area for the royal family and yangban officials, and housed palaces and royal tombs.
