Heoninreung Ecological Landscape Conservation Area (Alnus japonica Forest)

Heoninreung Ecological Landscape Conservation Area is a forest where approximately 17,000 pyeong of Alnus japonica trees form a colony on the lower southern slope of Daemosan Mountain, below Heoninreung Royal Tomb. Due to groundwater flowing in from the wide basin of Daemosan's southern slope, the water level is high, and the low-lying area has deep soil, providing favorable environmental conditions that have led to the formation of a large-scale Alnus japonica community rare in Seoul. Additionally, in various parts where Alnus japonica grows, puddles and small waterways remain, allowing diverse wetland herbaceous plants to thrive, and the area is rich in biodiversity, hosting Seoul's protected species such as the white-backed woodpecker, swallow, black-naped oriole, and great tit. Various wetland plants like Alnus japonica forest, yellow jewelweed, Solomon's seal, and iris live here, and wooden decks have been installed for easy walking, allowing visitors to observe wetland plants conveniently. Once designated as an ecological landscape conservation area, all activities harmful to ecosystem conservation, such as capturing wild animals and plants or collecting soil and stones within the area, are prohibited.
