Sayuksin Park

Located on a high hill between the Hangang Bridge and Noryangjin Station, Sayuksin Park was created as a sacred area around the tombs of the Six Martyred Ministers. The tombs of the Six Martyred Ministers are the resting place of six loyal subjects—Park Paeng-nyeon, Seong Sam-mun, Yi Gae, Ha Wi-ji, Yu Seong-won, and Yu Eung-bu—who sacrificed their lives in 1456 (the 2nd year of King Sejo's reign) while attempting to restore King Danjong, the 6th monarch of the Joseon Dynasty, to the throne. After King Danjong's uncle, Grand Prince Suyang, usurped the throne and ousted Danjong in 1455 (the 3rd year of Danjong's reign), these six ministers, enraged by the injustice, plotted to restore Danjong but were discovered and met a tragic end. To commemorate their loyalty and noble spirit, a Confucian academy was established here in 1681 (the 7th year of King Sukjong's reign), and a memorial stele was erected in 1782 (the 6th year of King Jeongjo's reign). In 1955, a monument for the Six Martyred Ministers was also erected, and later the tomb area was expanded and reorganized to honor the spirit of loyalty and filial piety. Originally, only the tombs of Park Paeng-nyeon, Seong Sam-mun, Yu Eung-bu, and Yi Gae were present, but later tombs for Ha Wi-ji, Yu Seong-won, and Kim Mun-gi were added and enshrined together. A history hall is also in operation to help visitors understand the Six Martyred Ministers, so it is worth exploring as well. In spring, various flowers including cherry blossoms bloom at Sayuksin Park, and in summer, the cool shade attracts many citizens who come to reflect on the loyalty of the Six Martyred Ministers while taking a rest. Additionally, from the observation point at Sayuksin Park, the scenery of Seoul unfolds at a glance, making it a popular spot for people to enjoy the night view.
