Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

The auditorium of Incheon Jeompo High School is a building constructed in 1935 during the Japanese colonial period as the auditorium of Incheon Middle School. The building is a brick structure with one basement floor and one ground floor, with a building area of 495.87㎡ and a total floor area of 628.1㎡. It is a large auditorium with a width of 15m, but it is characterized by being built without any pillars in the middle. The overall design is very simple and functional. The roof has a two-tier slope, with the upper part having a gentle pitch and the lower part taking a steep mansard roof form. The roof frame is constructed with a king post truss, and the space under the current roof is blocked by a plywood ceiling. A plaque reading 'Seongdeokdang' hangs on the entrance door pillars. The original form is well preserved overall. This building is also a place where students of Jeompo High School at the time listened to lectures by many patriotic figures and nurtured their ambitions. It is a historic site that has been used not only as a school auditorium but also as a large gathering space for the local community. After liberation, in 1945, when Gil Yeong-hui was appointed as the principal of Incheon Middle School and established Jeompo High School in 1954, it has been used as the auditorium of Jeompo High School.
