Unsusamm

Unsusamm is located on the central high ground within Muyang Fortress on Goseongsan Mountain in Anseong. It is said to have been founded in 1750 (the 26th year of King Yeongjo's reign) during the Joseon Dynasty by a woman named Mrs. Jang. Mrs. Jang, a widow, was preparing a site outside Muyang Fortress to enshrine the Buddha when an old monk appeared in her dream and told her to build the temple inside the fortress. She went to that spot, cleared away the fallen grass and trees, and found it suitable for a temple site, thus building this hermitage. In 1870 (the 7th year of King Gojong's reign), Daewongun donated funds for its reconstruction and bestowed a personally inscribed plaque reading 'Unsusamm.' In 1986, the Daeungjeon Hall was rebuilt.

Currently, the Daeungjeon Hall stands on the central high ground of the hermitage, with the Birojeon Hall adjacent to it. The monks' quarters are positioned perpendicular to the main axis of Birojeon. The hermitage was on the verge of collapse due to neglect until Monk Hyeonam repaired it and undertook the reconstruction of Daeungjeon, bringing it to its present state. Heading northwest from the entrance of Bangsan-ri, the charm of Unsusamm appears among larch and pine forests, and the clear sound of a wooden gong greets visitors along the forest path. Unsusamm is designated as Gyeonggi-do Cultural Heritage Material and houses a Vairocana Buddha seated statue from the Goryeo Dynasty.
