Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Yeonjuam Hermitage, a temple already well-known to those who frequently visit Gwanaksan Mountain, is considered a highlight of Gwanaksan along with Yeonjudae, located atop a rocky cliff at an elevation of 629m. Neighboring the summit, Yeonjudae is a scenic spot synonymous with Gwanaksan, offering a panoramic view of downtown Seoul.

It is said that Yeonjuam Hermitage was founded by Master Uisang in 677. Originally called Gwansa Temple, it was moved to its current location in 1411 by Grand Prince Yangnyeong and Grand Prince Hyoryeong, the first and second sons of King Taejong.
