Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Dora Observatory was newly established following the closure of Songaksan OP and is the northernmost observatory in the South where you can view life in North Korea. Dozens of telescopes are installed, allowing visitors to see Songaksan Mountain in Kaesong, the Kim Il-sung statue, Kijong-dong, the outskirts of Kaesong city, and Geumamgol (Hyupdong Cooperative Farm) through the telescopes. On clear days, you can even see the Kaesong Industrial Complex.
Since Dora Observatory is located within the Civilian Control Zone, access by private vehicles is restricted. For DMZ tours, it is convenient to use the DMZ-linked tour program.
