Jeongyagyongyujeokji

Jeong Yak-yong Historic Site is located at 11, Dasan-ro 747beon-gil, Joan-myeon, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, in Neungnae-ri, Joan-myeon, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi-do. It is the hometown where Dasan Jeong Yak-yong was born, grew up, and spent his later years. This is a historically significant area where Jeong Yak-yong's family has been rooted since his fifth-generation ancestor, and it is a place imbued with his life and scholarship. Dasan Jeong Yak-yong succeeded the Silhak (Practical Learning) tradition passed down from Yu Hyeong-won and Yi Ik, embraced the ideas of the Bukhak (Northern Learning) school, emphasized practical knowledge and the promotion of public welfare, and synthesized Silhak. During his lifetime, he wrote over 500 volumes and more than 2,700 poems, and passed away in his hometown in 1836, the second year of King Heonjong's reign, at the age of 75. The historic site includes the Tomb of Jeong Yak-yong (Gyeonggi-do Monument), his birthplace Yeoyudang, the shrine Mundosa, a memorial hall, a cultural center, and a Culture Street. The memorial hall displays copies of his works such as *Mongmin Simseo*, *Gyeongse Yupyo*, and *Heumheum Sinseo*, along with a diorama recreating the construction site of Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon. The cultural center exhibits seven artworks themed around Jeong Yak-yong, including 'Sinaji Gubang' and 'Jeong Yak-yong Garden'. Mundosa is a shrine named after Jeong Yak-yong's posthumous title, where descendants gather annually on the anniversary of his death to hold ancestral rites. Near the historic site are Paldang Lake, a wildflower garden, an ecological pond, and Dasan Ecological Park, and at Sujongsa Temple, there is Samjeongheon, where Jeong Yak-yong drank tea with acquaintances. The Dasan Cultural Festival, held annually since 1986, has become a historical and cultural festival where visitors can experience Jeong Yak-yong's life and ideas through various civic events and performances.
